About the Journal

Atlantic Geoscience (originally Maritime Sediments, subsequently Maritime Sediments and Atlantic Geology and Atlantic Geology) covers all aspects of the geoscience of Atlantic Canada and related areas. It publishes papers, notes, and discussions on original research and review papers, where appropriate to the regional geoscience.  

As of January 1, 2025, the journal adopted the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license. This license requires that re-users give credit to the creator. It allows re-users to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format, even for commercial purposes. Going forward, manuscripts published in Atlantic Geoscience will be open access - no subscription required.  However, please note that unless authors paid for immediate open access, papers published in v. 60 (2024) will not become open access until 12 months after their publication.

Open Access interview with Érudit

Earlier this year, Catherine Côté-Cyr, the communications officer at Érudit, invited Atlantic Geoscience editor Sandra Barr to participate in an interview about the experience of moving the journal to “open access”. That interview has now been published and may be of interest to journal readers and authors.
