We are excited to announce the release of the latest edition of Acadiensis, Vol. 53, No. 1!
In this issue scholars Keith Grant, Nicole Gilhuis, Carli LaPierre, Anthony Dickinson, and Chesley Sanger contribute research articles exploring the complexities of identity and race in early Nova Scotia, the challenges of economic diversification in mid-20th-century Newfoundland, and the role of French cartography in shaping imperial imaginings. Erin Spinney provides critique of studies of nursing history in the Atlantic region, while this issue also features two special forum sections. The first forum comes from the 2024 ACS conference with contributions from speakers Nicole O’Byrne, John Reid, and Patricia Bernard, who remember the integral roles of historians Elizabeth Mancke and Bill Parenteau in court cases over Indigenous land claims. The second forum features an exclusive, in-depth interview with acclaimed Wəlastəqwey musical artist Jeremy Dutcher. In this conversation with Acadiensis editor (and father) Stephen Dutcher, Jeremy delves into his journey of reclaiming his community’s musical legacy, while exploring wider themes of cultural preservation and Indigenous sovereignty.
