This piece comprises a reprint of a “lost” autobiographical tale by Catherine Parr Trail, accompanied by a critical introduction. The introduction addresses: 1) what the story adds to our knowledge of the Stricklands’ life in England; 2) what factors contributed to the story’s appearance in a Boston paper; and 3) the differences between this piece and Traill’s other writing for children. Notably, the identification of this piece has led to the uncovering of a second unknown Traill story that draws on similar biographical detail.
