About the Journal

Established in 1974, Geoscience Canada is the main technical publication of the Geological Association of Canada (GAC®). The GAC is a national learned society that makes significant contributions to the promotion and development of the geological sciences in Canada through publications, awards, conferences, meetings and exhibitions. Geoscience Canada is a quarterly journal that emphasizes diversity of material, and also the presentation of informative technical articles that can be understood not only by specialist research workers, but by non-specialists in other branches of the Earth Sciences. We aim to be a journal that you want to read, and which will leave you better informed, rather than more confused.

We publish several different types of articles and emphasize content that is thematic and topical, and which has implications across and beyond Canada. Much of our content has a Canadian connection or focus, but we welcome submissions from all over the world and in all disciplines of Earth Sciences. Our goal is to grow beyond our borders and to diversify across the wide spectrum of our modern science.

Geoscience Canada is supported through modest subscription revenue, by resources of the Geological Association of Canada, and by grants from the Canadian Geoscience Foundation. In-kind support is provided by Memorial University (St. John's, NL) and St. Francis Xavier University (Antigonish, NS) and the University of New Brunswick (Fredericton, NB).

Geoscience Canada has a small and efficient editorial team, and works towards rapid review and turnaround of articles. We look forward to welcoming new readers, and receiving new submissions.

Geoscience Canada is transitioning to an Open Access model that aligns with the goals and support of the Geological Association of Canada (GAC) activities.

Geoscience Canada Volume 51 (2024) papers will be published under the terms of Green Open Access. Authors may post a copy of the formally accepted (post-peer review) pre-layout version of their paper with a link to the published article online (i.e. identifying the Journal, volume, issue, and provide the URL: https://journals.lib.unb.ca/index.php/GC/). Authors are requested to replace the pre-layout version post after the 1-year subscription embargo has ended with Geoscience Canada’s final published version (PDF). The formally accepted article, in pre-layout form, may be posted without delay on the author’s personal website or in a repository of their choosing.
