Abstract
This essay seeks to examine the advent of section 23 of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms in relation to the French language issue involving the school system in the Maritime provinces. The author gives a detailed account of section 23 and the special rights which it guarantees Acadians to educate their children in the language of their choice. The author also notes that recent amendments to the Schools Act in these provinces have not met the demands of the Acadian population.
