Abstract

In regard to stories based on historical subjects, the challenge to the writer lies not so much in the creation of a consistent and absorbing story as in his drawing from an existing document them implicit artistic effect which the writer lacked the imagination or language to reveal. Deviations from Wiebe's historical sources are examined in "Games fir Queen Victoria", "The Fish Caught in the Battle River" and "Along the Red Deer and South Saskatchewan."
