Announcing the Latest Winner of the Herb Wyile Prize in Canadian Literature

2025-02-20

The winner of this year’s Herb Wyile Prize in Canadian Literature is Marie-Ève Bradette for her essay “Le conflit des souverainetés linguistiques au Québec : perspectives critiques et littéraires autochtones.” published in issue 48.2.

The judges said:

Marie-Ève Bradette’s essay navigates thorny debates about language rights in Quebec with sensitivity, insight, and nuance. This piece constitutes an important contribution to the analysis of Indigenous writing in Quebec, and of the vital work of Indigenous authors to envision a radical politics of plurilingual sovereignty.

The winning article was selected by a committee of three adjudicators — Paul Chafe (Toronto Metropolitan U) Allison Hargreaves (UBC) and Sarah Henzi (SFU) — from among the essays that appear in SCL/ÉLC's two issues published in 2023. The prize has a value of $500.

Congratulations to Marie-Ève!
