Abstract

Huang Jinpei et Alan R. Trasher nous livrent l’histoire des associations de Vancouver qui ont interprété des opéras cantonnais de même que de la musique instrumentale, depuis l’arrivée des premiers Cantonnais, au milieu du XIXe siècle, ju squ’à nos jours. Les auteurs concentrent leur analyse sur trois importantes associations, et examinent tout particulièrement leur contexte d’insertion; les auteurs défendent la thèse que de telles associations ne pourront dorénavant survivre que de manière marginale.
