Abstract

The enumerative song is a type of traditional song neglected until recently by folklorists and researchers. Madeleine Beland begins with a brief survey of studies published on this category of song in both France and Canada. She gives some explanations of the structure and form of the songs before discussing the classification which has been established for a Bibliographical Catalogue of Enumerative Songs. She comments on each of the 15 categories and gives examples.
