Abstract
The focus of this paper is polyphonic practices in Georgian traditional music with emphasis on the ensemble and related political and social influences. Throughout this discussion, the author argues that the historical rural background of the ensemble, linked to the nation’s sacred singing tradition, played a critical role in the preservation of Georgian polyphonic songs, and the revival movement associated with this music.- The author retains copyright over the work.
