Perceptions of the Polish language and its sources of power through the lens of learners of Polish
Abstract
This paper aims to investigate the perceptions and opinions of Canadian university students regarding the Polish language. Specifically, the study endeavours to explore the extent to which sources of power can engender interest in the Polish language among learners. Additionally, this paper briefly outlines potential applications of the findings to enhance the prestige of the Polish language in Canada, thereby promoting a positive self-esteem and identity for the Polish community. To achieve these goals, a small-scaled qualitative study was conducted among beginner students of Polish as a second or foreign language. The study’s findings shed light on the potential power of the language in shaping perceptions of the Polish language among Canadian students.
