MELVIN BAKER (President’s Office) is Archivist-Historian for Memorial University of Newfoundland. He is writing a biography of Sir William Coaker and the history of the Newfoundland salt codfish trade between 1908 and 1938. Email address: melbaker@mun.ca

DANIEL BANOUB was born and raised in St. John’s, NL. He completed his B.A. at Memorial University and his M.A. at York University in Social Anthropology. He is currently completing his doctorate at the University of Manchester in the School for Environment and Development (Geography), examining the political ecology of the aquaculture industry in Newfoundland and Labrador. WILLIAM W. FITZHUGH , a research curator at the Smithsonian Institution where he directs its Arctic Studies Center, began his career excavating with Elmer Harp at Port au Choix’s Phillips Garden site in 1963. His research in Labrador from 1967-1990 laid the foundation for central and northern Labrador prehistory and environmental relationships. In the early 1990s he worked in Frobisher Bay with the Meta Incognita Project. Since 2001 he has been exploring the southern limits of Inuit settlement on the Quebec Lower North Shore while also conducting fieldwork in Mongolia. Email address: fitzhugh@si.edu
