Marie Elwood once quipped that there are many chairs of history but few historians of chairs. She did not leave the issue that clever, and telling, remark. Instead she dedicated herself to the study and promulgation of material history. Marie Elwood has now retired as Chief Curator of the History Section at the Nova Scotia Museum. She leaves behind a rich legacy of knowledge and a wealth of shared wisdom and pleasant memories. To retire is not to cease to work and contribute. Material History Review looks forward to the ongoing research activities of one of its earliest and most faithful supporters.
