NORMAN R. BALL is Northern Telecom Professor of Engineering Impact on Society in the Department of Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo.

WILLIAM RALPH CLARK is a forest economist at the Petawawa National Forestry Institute in Chalk River, Ontario, with a personal interest in human and natural history. He is also the great-great-great-grandson of Baron de Zeng, the central figure in his article.

PETER LOCKYER is a radio and television journalist. Formerly with CBC radio and television, he is now an Ottawa-based independent producer specializing in television documentary on Third World issues.

RHONDA MAWHOOD is currently completing an MA Thesis in history at McGill University on the topic of images of feminine beauty in Canada and U.S. magazine advertising from 1900 to 1940.

DIANNE NEWELL teaches history at the University of British Columbia. A past president of the Smithsonian-based Society for Industrial Archaeology, she has published widely in the fields of industrial archaeology, industrial history, and the history of technology.

DIANNE REID, an archivist at the National Archives of Canada from 1979 to 1989, is currently exhibition review editor for Archivaria.

JUDITH RYGIEL is a master weaver in the Ottawa area. She is the Eastern Ontario director of the Ontario Crafts Council.
