La recherche sur la culture matérielle en Amérique du Nord: nouveaux objectifs, nouvelles théories

1 Dans l'attente d'un financement, le Winterthur Museum et la Memorial University of Newfoundland vont coparrainer une conférence internationale intitulée: «La recherche sur la culture matérielle en Amérique du Nord: nouveaux objectifs, nouvelles théories». Cette rencontre se déroulera à St John's (Terre-Neuve) du 19 au 21 juin 1986, et rassemblera les plus grands spécialistes du Canada et des États-Unis. Voici quelques-uns des thèmes qui seront traités en comité:

  • Théories de la culture matérielle: emprunt ou nouveauté?
  • L'objet façonné: structure et communication
  • Les dimensions politiques et économiques de l'objet
  • L'objet façonné nous apprend-il quelque chose de nouveau?
  • La signification des objets aux yeux du public: musées, collectionneurs, organismes gouvernementaux

North American Material Culture Research: New Objectives, New Theories

4 Pending funding, Winterthur Museum and Memorial University of Newfoundland will be cosponsoring an international conference on "North American Material Culture Research: New Objectives, New Theories." This gathering will be held in St. John's, Newfoundland, June 19-21, 1986, and will bring together leading material culture researchers from Canada and the United States. Panel topics will include:

  • Theories of Material Culture: Something Borrowed or Something New?
  • The Artifact: Structure and Communication
  • The Political and Economic Dimensions of the Object
  • Does the Artifact Reveal Anything New?
  • The Meaning of Objects to the Public: Museums, Collectors, Government Agencies
  • Working Objects, Objects at Work
  • The Future of Material Culture Research
