1 The next meeting of the Atlantic Canada Workshop is scheduled for Sydney, Cape Breton, 25-28 September 1985. The Sixth Atlantic Workshop will be jointly sponsored by the University College of Cape Breton and Fortress Louisbourg National Historic Park through their Louisbourg Institute. The Workshop is an interdisciplinary group of scholars with an interest in Atlantic Canada. Previous conferences have provided occasions for historians, geographers, sociologists, archaeologists, anthropologists, economists, folklorists, museum curators, and archivists to engage in discussion and exchange.

3 Le prochain Atelier sur le Canada Atlantique doit avoir lieu à Sydney (Cap Breton), du 25 au 28 septembre 1985. 5 The University of New Brunswick has received approval to operate a graduate level Diploma Programme in Material History in conjunction with its M.A. Programme in History. The Diploma Programme will accept candidates beginning in September 1984.

6 There will be two study options:

1. Students with an M.A. in history or its equivalent can earn the Diploma in one calendar year or its part-time equivalent by completing the following requirements: graduate course: Themes in Material History; graduate course: Introduction to Practical Programmes in Material History; an approved research internship in material history.
2. Students entering the regular M.A. programme in history can choose to earn in a minimum of two years (five terms) the degree of M.A. in History by Report and simultaneously the Diploma in Material History by completing all requirements for the M.A. by Report plus the following: one of the four full graduate courses required for the M.A. must be Themes in Material History; a fifth graduate course: Introduction to Practical Programmes in Material History; an approved research internship in material history; the Report topic must be in the field of material history and normally based on research conducted during the internship.
