1 Le Conseil de recherches en sciences humaines du Canada a accordé une subvention de 75 000$ par an, pour deux ans, à Mary Williamson, bibliographe en beaux-arts de l'université York et à Loren Singer, bibliothécaire en arts plastiques de l'université Concordia. Toutes deux auront pour tâche de préparer un guide documentaire de référence sur l'art et l'architecture au Canada. Plusieurs personnes participeront à ce projet, notamment des employés des Musées nationaux du Canada, de Parcs Canada, des Archives publiques du Canada, et de divers musées et universités se spécialisant dans le domaine de l'art et de l'architecture du Canada.

2 La bibliographie comprendra environ 8000 articles annotés tirés de livres, de catalogues d'expositions, d'essais, de revues, de publications du gouvernement et de thèses publiés au cours de deux cents ou trois cents années au Canada et à l'étranger. Cet ouvrage se subdivisera en sections ou chapitres généraux: généralités, art des autoch-tones, architecture, sculpture, peinture et gravure, arts graphiques, arts décoratifs, art populaire et photographie. Chaque section sera précédée d'une table des matières détaillée. Un index des auteurs, des titres et des sujets complétera l'ouvrage.

3 Cette bibliographie sera bilingue. Les introductions au volume et à ses différentes sections ainsi que les tables des matières le seront également. Les articles en anglais seront annotés en anglais et ceux en français le seront en français. Les articles rédigés en d'autres langues feront l'objet de courtes notes en anglais et en français. Tous les articles seront indexés par sujet tant en français qu'en anglais.

5 The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada has awarded Mary Williamson, Fine Arts bibliographer of York University, and Loren Singer, Visual Arts librarian of Concordia University, a two-year grant of $75,000 per annum to prepare a reference guide to the literature of art and architecture in Canada. Contributors from the National Museums of Canada, Parks Canada, the Public Archives of Canada, and museums and universities specializing in Canadian art and architecture will participate in the project.

6 The bibliography will include approximately 8,000 annotated entries selected from books, exhibition catalogues, essays, journals, government publications, and theses published during two to three hundred years in Canada and abroad. It will be divided into broad classified sections or chapters: General, Art of the Native Americans, Architecture, Sculpture, Painting and Art Media, Graphic Arts, Decorative Arts, Folk Art, and Photography. Each section will be preceded by a detailed table of con tents outlining the organization of the section. An author and subject index following the main body of the bibliography will provide detailed access to names, titles, and subjects.

7 The bibliography will be a bilingual publication. The general and sectional introductions and tables of contents will be in English and French. English language entries will be annotated in English and French language entries will be annotated in French. Entries in other languages will be briefly annotated in both English and French. All entries will be indexed by subject in both English and French.
