Abstract

In November of 2024, seven weeks pregnant, I started to bleed and went to the emergency room. This was the beginning of a months-long process of trying to access proper reproductive healthcare in New Brunswick. I received conflicting information from countless medical professionals, was met with voicemail inboxes, waitlists, and denials of service. I called public health nurses, consulted with virtual practitioners, drove to different hospitals. No one knew what to do. I had two failed abortions and developed an infection, spent days in waiting rooms and hospital beds. I bled heavily for over two months. Finally, through a series of personal connections, I accessed care in a neighbouring city. In February 2025, my body began to heal.
