This issue contains a number of papers focussed on the management of logistics in the forest industry. The development of this component was managed by Guest Editor, Dr. Bo Dahlin, of the Swedish Agricultural University. It is a testimonial to the growing importance of this sub-discipline that we received a number of unsolicited papers about it after the six solicited papers by Bo were developed. The management of logistics seems to be part of the forest industry's Zeitgeist. Our thanks go to Bo and his team of reviewers for their excellent work in collecting, editing and managing the reviews for these papers.
This issue also marks the last prepared by me as Managing Editor of the Journal. After five years, I am leaving the position and moving on to a decanal appointment at Renaissance College, the University of New Brunswick (UNB) interdisciplinary leadership school. I want to take this opportunity to thank Ardith Armstrong, Editorial Office Manager at the Journal for 16 years without whom the Journal would not be what it is. Her attention to detail and cheerful willingness to work on very complex copy editing and layout projects has made it a pleasure to produce the issues of the Journal -- the creation of which I've supervised.
Our thanks must also go to James Kerr and the staff of the UNB Electronic Text Centre, who have been responsible for the Journal's web publishing and look. They have done a masterful job of producing highly accessible full text and summary material for the Journal and of converting the entire back catalogue to an on-line format.
The members of the IJFE editorial board must be recognized for their patience and hard work in reviewing many papers each year. The care and thought that they have put into the reviews has had a substantial impact on the quality of scholarly work published in the Journal and we thank them on behalf of both the readers and writers of papers published in the IJFE.
Finally, I want to thank the members of the Forest Engineering Program at UNB for their assistance as the board of directors of the IJFE who helped shape its policy, manage its affairs and contributed a substantial number of reviews of papers submitted to the program.
Dr. Marvin Pyles of Oregon State University and Dr. Dirk Jaeger of UNB will act as Managing Editors for the IJFE starting on July 20, 2005. I wish them and the Journal all success in the future.
